Iran hosts frist ‘Aftab’ chess tournament

TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (MNA) – The first Aftab Cup Open International Chess Tournament got underway in the Iranian city of Khomeyn on Tuesday morning.

A total of 100 chess players from Iran as well as nine Asian and European countries are taking part at the 1st International Chess Festival dubbed ‘Aftab Cup’ which will run from August 29 to September 03 in Khomeyn, a city in the central Iranian province of Markazi.

Spain, Georgia, Iraq, Russia, Denmark, Croatia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Afghanistan are among foreign countries who have deployed representatives to the international chess tournament.

The sportive event is organized in the Swiss System of 9 rounds and each player shall have 90 minutes with the addition of 30 seconds per move starting from the first move.

The Pairings will be made using Swiss Manager Software and shall be announced as soon as possible after each round finishes.

Organizing committee of Aftab Cup will provide top-ranking athletes with prize money with the title-winner receiving 10,000 dollars.
