Saipa stands 1st at Asian Club Champions League

TEHRAN, Aug. 07 (MNA) – Saipa Chess Club of Iran firmly took the title at Asian Club Champions League 2017 in Sri Lanka to secure spots at World Team Championship.

In the first three rounds of the Asian event, Iran’s Saipa had pulled out convincing and well-deserved victories to certify its early championship. Yet, the Iranian club, thirsty for more wins, overcame the host squad 4-0 in the final showdown on Sunday evening.

As such, Saipa Chess Club won the title at the prestigious Asian tournament by demonstrating stunning performances. The achievement also brought Saipa a berth at 2018 World Team Championship to convene in Radebeul of Germany.

The Iranian squad comprised Ehsan Ghaemmaghami, Masoud Mosadeghpour, Amin Tabatabaei and Amir Rezapour who were led by Morteza Mahjoub and supervised by Masoud Namvari.

Second to fifth positions were occupied by Saif Sporting Chess Club from Bangaladesh, Australia’s Sydney Chess Club Australia, Bai Xue Qi Yuan of China as well as the Sri Lankan Team.

The 2017 Asian Club Champions League was organized by Chess Federation of Sri Lanka under the patronage of the Asian Chess Federation and awards a total of $10,000 cash prizes to the top three participating clubs with the first place receiving $5,000.
