Friday prayer leaders ask officials to avoid bickering

TEHRAN, Oct. 1 (MNA) – Friday prayer leaders have called on senior officials to maintain unity and abstain from political wrangling.

Friday prayer leaders from across the country held separate meetings with a number of senior officials on Tuesday and Wednesday, at the end of which they issued a statement outlining some of the key points discussed during those meetings.

“We call upon the senior officials, especially the influential figures, to display unity not only in words but also in deeds, and refrain form engaging in disputes and wrangling over marginal issues,” the statement said.

The Friday prayer leaders also censured the outrageous incident in which a copy of the Holy Quran was burnt in the United States, saying the act only “burnt members of the global arrogance.”

They thanked President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in which he “conveyed the message of the Islamic Revolution.”

The senior clerics also condemned the recent terrorist attack in the northwestern city of Mahabad in which 12 women were killed.
