Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament of Afghanistan Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi on the 2nd Speakers’ Conference hosted by Tehran on Saturday, during which he said, “Tehran-Kabul relations are beyond neighbourliness and therefore, overcoming terrorism and establishment of security and stability and economic development in Afghanistan is very important for the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Rouhani added “relations between Iran and Afghanistan is developing in different fields, and currently, Iran has constructed a railway reaching the border with Afghanistan in a bid to connect the rail networks of the two countries.”
The President added that “Chabahar port is a very good opportunity for development of economic relations between the two countries and for investment and investors.”
On the production of illicit drugs, the president added that “the issue of narcitics has caused many harms to both Iranian and Afghan nations and a serious fight against it requires close cooperation between the two countries.”
Speaker of the Parliament of Afghanistan Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, for his part, said in this meeting that “Iran and Afghanistan have a lot of common grounds with regard to culture.”
“Iran and Afghanistan are both major victims of terrorism in the region and the world and we believe that cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorism will benefit not only the two, but also the entire region,” Ibrahimi continued.
