Bahram Ghasemi told reporters on Thursday during official denouncing of the remarks by Tobias Ellwood earlier this week on Iran’s role in escalating Yemeni crisis as ‘baseless claims;’ “British officials should feel responsible for using arms manufactured in Britain in Yemen by Saudi Arabia which amply use these weaponry to target and kill innocent civilians including children and women,” he told reporters.
“British weapons are being used in Yemen and the officials in London should reconsider their conduct in trading weapons with petty kingdom which had long been engaged in futile conflict in Yemen and who had brazenly destroyed Yemeni infrastructure,” Ghasemi emphasized. “Officials in London should provide compelling comments why despite the EU resolution officially bans selling weapons to Saudi Arabia, Britain had preferred lucrative trade with a regime which kills children with no qualms,” he added.
Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Minister for the Middle East and Africa Tobias Ellwood had been quoted by Asharq Al-awsat English saying on Tuesday that “we are worried regarding Iran arming Houthis as we have received reports implying that Iran has transferred arms to Yemen; thus violating UN Security Resolution 2216, which forbids Iran from exporting weapons.”
