In a statement on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi extended his deepest condolences on behalf of Iranian nation and government to the Indonesian nation and government, as well as the families of those who lost their lives in the deadly earthquake.
The powerful earthquake of 7 magnitude struck the Indonesian resort island of Lombok on Sunday evening, killing at least 82 people, injuring hundreds, and demolishing thousands of buildings.
The Lombok earthquake on Sunday was the second of such powerful quakes to hit this area in the last week. The first one, of 6.4 magnitude, left 17 people killed and damaged hundreds of buildings.
The death toll is feared to go higher as rescuers still have no access to some of the worst-affected areas in the north of the island.
