Ban's special advisor on SDGs visits Tehran

TEHRAN, Jun. 06 (MNA) – United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Professor Jeffrey Sachs arrived in Tehran on June 5 for a three-day stay in the Iranian capital.

During his stay, Professor Sachs will deliver lectures at Amirkabir University as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) and will pay a visit to some United Nations Development Programme’s project sites.

Dr. Sachs, who arrives in Tehran at the invitation of the Iranian Mission at UN Headquarters in New York, is a renowned American economist and director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, where he holds the title of University Professor, the highest rank Columbia bestows on its faculty. He is known as one of the world's leading experts on economic development and the fight against poverty.

He currently serves as Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the Sustainable Development Goals, having held a similar position under former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
