Iran's blocked assets released: CBI Governor

TEHRAN, Sep. 18 (MNA) – The governor of the Central Bank of Iran Mohammad Reza Farzin announced that $6 billion of Iran's frozen funds has been transferred into Iran's bank accounts in Qatar.

According to the agreements, all payments will be made by brokers of Qatari banks and SWIFT, he said.

He clarified that Iran will pursue its lawsuit in order to receive damages against South Korea due to the lack of access to said funds and devaluation.

Farzin added that accessing foreign exchange resources is underway in several countries and the results will be announced.

Qatar has confirmed that unfrozen Iranian funds worth $6 billion have been transferred to bank accounts in Doha, triggering a US-Iran prisoner swap.

The swap deal, mediated by Qatar and announced broadly on Aug. 10, allows five US citizens detained by Iran to leave in exchange for the transfer of the funds to banks in Qatar and the release of five Iranians held in the United States.
