The incident happened at a warehouse close to Sochi airport on Saturday morning and sent plumes of thick black smoke skywards, EXPRESS reported.
Photos on social media show a Utair aeroplane taxiing down the runway, with a massive orange ball of flames mushrooming in the background.
A video purporting to show the aftermath of the explosion shows firefighters trying to hose down the blaze.
There is currently no suggestion that the explosion is connected to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
