3 Iranian shorts to vie at UK’s Encounters filmfest.

TEHRAN, Aug. 08 (MNA) – An Iranian animated piece with two other short films will compete with other titles from across the world at the 23rd Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival in UK.

The selected Iranian films included short animated piece ‘Pink’ directed by Mahboubeh Mohammadzaki, and two short films including ‘Retouch’ by Kaveh Mazaheri, and ‘Silence’ directed jointly by Farnoush Samadi and Ali Asgari.

Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival is the UK’s leading short film and animation festival, and the annual meeting place for filmmakers and industry professionals, based in Bristol. Nominated filmmakers qualify for the BAFTAs, the Oscars, the European Film Awards and the Cartoon d’Or.

'Retouch' is about a young woman whose husband dies before her eyes and she just observes the tragic scene. The film has recently won Best Short Film award at Michael Moore's Traverse City Film Festival.

Mohammadzaki’s latest animation ‘Pink’, also scripted by her, is about a woman suffering from a severe disease and her determination to overcome it.

‘Silence’, which premiered in the Short Film Official Competition at 2016 Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of a little girl, a Kurdish refugee, who refuses to translate the doctor’s words to her mum. She prefers to remain silent.

The 23rd edition of Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival will be held on 19 - 24 September 2017 in Bristol, UK.
