Iraqi soldiers recapture over 50 ISIL-controlled oil wells near Mosul

MOSCOW, Oct. 19 (MNA) – Iraqi servicemen have retaken more than 50 oil wells and a sulfur factory controlled by the militants from Daesh terrorist group near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, local media reported.

On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced the start of the military operation to retake Mosul from ISIL militants.

According to the Elaph website, the servicemen drove ISIL fighters from 56 oil wells and the sulfur factory near Kiara located in the vicinity of Mosul.

The media outlet added that during the military operation carried out in the abovementioned area Iraqi forces killed at least 31 terrorists.

Mosul, the second biggest Iraqi city, is the main stronghold of ISIL in Iraq. The city was seized by terrorist group, which is banned in many countries, in 2014 along with a number of other northern and western Iraqi settlements.
