The 2015 world silver medalist at 70kg Hassan Yazdani overcame a six-point deficit in the Rio 2016 gold medal for a 6-6 last-point victory over Russia’s Aniuar Geduev at 74kg weight division and secured his first appearance at No.1 in the rankings.
Iran’s Yazdani climbed from No.4 to the top of September 2016 rankings at 74kg, completing his ascent from 2014 junior world champ to world silver medalist last year at 70kg to Olympic Games gold medalist.
Rio silver medalist Komeil Ghasemi also obtained the second best place in the latest United World Wrestling (UWW) ranking list.
Meanwhile, Hassan Rahimi, who enjoyed the second place at UWW pre-Olympic freestyle rankings for July 2016, has descended to No.4 spot given his bitter defeat against Rei Higuchi of Japan in Rio extravaganza.
