Tehran to host wrestling Martyrs Cup 2016

TEHRAN, Oct. 04 (MNA) – The International Junior Free Style and Greco-Roman Tournament, entitled ‘Martyrs Cup’, will be held on October 27-28 in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

The Tournament will be organized under the UWW Regulations on 3 UWW approved mats in eight weight categories.

Hijran Sharifov of Azerbaijan will represent the United World Wresting (UWW) in the upcoming sportive event. Sharifov has long had the highest referee category and has participated in the Olympics twice.

Several countries have so far expressed readiness to take part in the 2016 Martyrs Cup including Tajikistan, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Belarus, Armenia, Hungary and Russia.

Invited national Wrestling Federations are entitled to enter a maximum of 10 wrestlers, 2 coaches in each style, an International referee and a team leader.

The 2015 edition of the competitions were also held in Tehran with Russia, Ukraine and Iran winning gold, silver and bronze medals in the freestyle division.

In the Greco-Roman category, however, Kyrgyzstan won the title followed by Georgia and Iran who stood in second and third places, respectively.
