National fencers miss medals at Spain World Cup

TEHRAN, May 15 (MNA) – Iran’s Abedini and Pakdaman finished 13th and 14th respectively in the final ranking of Senior World Cup Men’s Sabre held in Spain.

Individual competitions of the 34th Senior World Cup Men’s Sabre Individual and Team dubbed as ‘Villa de Madrid’ came to an end with Vincent Anstett of France winning the title followed by Georgia’s Sandro Bazadze who finished runner-up.

Meanwhile, Luca Curatoli of Italy and Junghwan Kim of South Korea overcame Iran’s Ali Pakdaman and Mojtaba Abedini in the table of 16 and jointly bagged the bronze medal of the sportive event.

The first two days of the event were devoted to Individual competitions with participation of 187 fencers from 37 countries.

In the final rankings, Abedini and Pakdaman, who had reached table of 16, placed 13th and 14th, respectively.

The other Iranian sabre fencer Farzad Baher Arasbaran lost his table of 64 bout and finished in 57th place.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Mohammad Rahbari earned a 66th place finish in Madrid after a loss in the table of 96.

Team competitions of the Spanish event will take place today on May 15 with the Iranian squad facing rivals under the leadership of head coach Peyman Fakhri.

The 34th Senior World Cup Men’s Sabre Individual and Team dubbed as ‘Villa de Madrid’ is underway in the Spanish capital of Madrid on May 13, 14 and 15th.
