Blues atop, Sepahan’s fall, reds’ revival

TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (MNA) – Both giants of Tehran won their fixture prior to the derby in a round not for the giants of Isfahan.

Esteghlal of Tehran defeated the title defenders and their table followers, Sepahan of Isfahan 3-0 to widen the gap with Isfahanis but still keeping the same point difference with the second-position-holders as Esteghlal of Khuzestan leapfrogged Sepahan to the second place of the table lagging two points behind the giants of Tehran.

The first day of the tenth round of Iran’s Premier League of Soccer got into gear on Tuesday in Isfahan where the blue giants of Tehran were hosted by Sepahan of Isfahan at Fouladshahr Stadium of the city.

Farshid Esmaeili (6), Jaber Ansari (53), and Behnam Barzay (77) scored for the guests to boost the morale a round before the Tehran derby of 11th round and bring home 3 precious points.

The second fixture of the day was held in Ahvaz, where the derby of the city was in line with expectations; another defeat for Esteghlal of Ahvaz and a decisive victory for Esteghlal of Khuzestan.

Rahim Zoheyvi and Hossein Beytsaeid each scored two times for Esteghlal of Khuzestan to secure a 4-0 triumph for their team and get the second place of the table in the day of Sepahan’s loss.

The first day of the tenth round ended with the fixture at Azadi Stadium of Tehran where the red giants of the city managed to garner a 2-0 victory over Malavan of Anzali and have a better mood for their next week challenge against their arch-rivals; Esteghlal of Tehran.

The second day was held on Wednesday with five events across the country out of which two ended with scoreless draws, two witnessed both Mashhadi clubs edge passed, and one finished with a 4-4 draw in Tabriz.

In the first encounter of Wednesday, Naft of Tehran scored two times in the second half to swap a 1-0 defeat with a 2-1 victory in an away match held in Samen Stadium of Mashhad where Padideh of the city was edge passed and troubled Tehranis garnered their second victory of the season.

In Tehran, Rah Ahan bagged another scoreless draw of the season against Gostaresh Foulad of Tabriz to still have a bumpy season though they experienced two victories after the new manager, Mehdi Tartar, got the position.

Simultaneously in Tabriz the other Tabrizi club of the Persian Gulf League left the pitch with a draw while the hosts lead the event 4-1 till the 81st minute.

Zowbahan escaped a heavy defeat with goals scored at 81, 86, and 94, by Morteza Tabrizi, Kaveh Rezaei, and Danial Esmaeilifar.

The other event of the day was between Saipa and Saba of Qom who ended scoreless after the 90-minute fight at Saipa’s venue.

Foulad of Khuzestan who had a very bad start in the season clinched their first victory of the season in their home event against Siah Jamegan of Mashhad to pen down a day of defeat for both clubs of the north-eastern city of Mashhah.
