IPL Round 21 wraps up; Esteghlal again atop

TEHRAN, Feb. 20 (MNA) –The remaining 5 fixtures of the round 21 of Iran’s IPL ended with 2 wins in Tehran and Ahvaz while the events in Mashhad, Qom, and Anzali finished with draws.  

Persian Gulf Premier League of Iran’s Professional Soccer wrapped up its 21st round on Friday as the 5 remaining fixtures of the round were held in cities across the country leading to the retune of the blue giants of Tehran to the top of the table.  

In Mashhad, the derby of the city was first led by Padideh who scored their sole goal at the minute 2 of the event but Reza Enayati’s equalizer at the 60th minute was not challenged till the end of the match to let fellow-citizens share the points of the derby.

Malavan who are suffering a bad season and have changed managers three times in the last 5 months could not gain anything more than a point out of their home event against another troubled team of the season Rah-Ahan of Tehran. Rah-Ahan left Anzali port of the north of Iran with a 0-0 draw.

In Ahvaz, Esteghlal of the city conceded to a late goal at the 88th minute to let Naft of Tehran leave the southern city with three points.

In Tehran, Esteghlal of Tehran edge passed Gostaresh Foulad of Tabriz 2-1 to regain their position at the top of the table. Sajjad Shahbzazadeh (33) and Mohsen Karimi (43) scored for Esteghlal and Shahram Goudarzi retaliated one of the goals late in the third minute of the injury time for Gostaresh.  

Mohammad Ebrahimi of Gostaresh did not convert a penalty at the 30 minute of the event and Mohammad Nosrati was shown a red card at the 58th minute to exacerbate the situation for the visitors.

In Qom, Ali Daie’s Saba drew 1-1 with Abdollah Veisi’s Esteghlal of Khuzestan to stop the Ahvazi table toppers who had gained the top just a week earlier.
