In a meeting with heads of commercial, economic and industrial American companies, Hassan Rouhani pointed to extensive negotiations of giant European and Asian companies with Iran adding that, “the post-sanction era has provided new economic and political conditions which need to be exploited by all companies.”
Underlining that current barriers and objections to investment in Iran by US companies will not last forever, Rouhani said that, “Iran’s incumbent government has managed to reform macroeconomic policies and despite the sanctions the economy has reached the growth of 3 percent.”
Outlining the steps taken to fight economic corruption, Iran’s president asserted that, “we are seeking to strengthen the private sector and reduce the share of public sector in order to extend competition and to avoid monopoly which leads to corruption.”
Rouhani further referred to Iran’s huge energy resources and its geostrategic position adding that, “these features along with security and stability in the region and the extensive railways that connect China and Central Asia to Oman Sea have provided a unique situation for economic activities.”
“A new space has been created in the fields of new technologies, airline industry and agriculture,” said president deeming economic cooperation as one way of reducing the distance between Iran and the US.
Rouhani further explained Iran’s extensive plans in the fields of oil, gas, agriculture and economy and said that, “Iran has always been committed to contracts with other sides.”
He also underlined Tehran’s continuous effort to bring about peace and stability in the region; “despite insecurity in some neighboring countries, Iran is secure and while Europe has diffuclty hosting a few thousands of refugees, Iran is hosting 3 million Afghan refugees and currently 400 thousand Afghan students are studying at Iranian schools.”
At the meeting, representatives of major American companies described their capabilities and announced their readiness to participate in various economic sectors of Iran.
