Pres. Rouhani to depart for NY to address UNGA

TEHRAN, Sep. 23 (MNA) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani will leave for New York on Thursday to attend and deliver speech at 70th annual session of UN General Assembly.

President Hassan Rouhani will leave Tehran on Thursday to attend the 70th United Nations General Assembly on September 15, where he is set to deliver a speech.

He is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit to be held in New York on September 25-27.

President Rouhani will also hold talks with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, as well as bilateral meetings with a number of heads of states participating in the UN event.

Other plans on his schedule for this five-day visit include a friendly meeting with a number of Iranians living in the US, general meetings with intellectuals and economic activists, and a press conference during which he will answer questions of international media.  

President Rouhani will return to Iran on September 29.

Minister of Culture Ali Jannati told reporters on Monday that issues related to Iraq, Syria and Yemen will be among the main topics of President Hassan Rouhani’s UN address, adding “the Palestinian issue" will be the main focus of the president's speech. 

This will be President Rouhani’s third visit to New York since he took office in August 2013.
