Iran’s Hassan Rouhani met with Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday evening in New York and stated that, “consolidation of security in Afghanistan will boost the country’s development process and all efforts need to be focused in this direction.”
“No group will benefit from war and killing of people and Afghanistan will develop if we find a solution to stop war in this country,” noted the president.
Pointing to the scourge of drugs in parts of Afghanistan and the resulting problems for neighboring countries, Rouhani said that, “Afghanistan should take furhter measures to combat the cultivation and production of drugs.”
Rouhani also deemed the connection of Iran’s railway to Iraq as a good means of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Abdullah Abdullah, for his part, described the current situation in Afghanistan and appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support of their people and government particularly during the reconstruction period.
“Iran has proved its friendship towards the government and people of Afghanistan in all conditions,” concluded Abdullah Abdullah.
