Iran, IAEA close to settle remaining issues

TEHRAN, Jul. 07 (MNA) – AEOI Spokesman Kamalvandi said on Monday Iran and the IAEA have reached a primary understanding on table of topics and joint cooperation schedule in order to resolve the remaining issues.

In a statement on Monday at the end of IAEA delegation visit to Iran, Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi touched upon the agreements reached during the recent visit of the agency’s Director General Yukiya Amano to Tehran and the two sides’ emphasis on expediting the process of joint cooperation to settle the remaining issues.

“The visit of the IAEA delegation within a few days after Amano’s trip shows the serious determination on both sides to effectively improve cooperation,” said Kamalvandi.

The Iranian nuclear official deemed the joint expert sessions held in Tehran from Monday morning until late hours “constructive, clear-cut, with mutual understanding and forward-moving.”

“The understanding that resulted from the Monday negotiations with the IAEA delegation which was all within the framework of national interests and security considerations based on Iran’s defined red lines, will definitely facilitate the technical interactions between Iran and the agency,” said Kamalvandi.

He further expressed hope for the continuation of the constructive cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, and announced the Islamic Republic’s readiness to continue its joint cooperation with the agency under the organization’s general rules.

Deputy FM Abbas Araghchi also said on Friday that Iran is ready to cooperate with the IAEA on the issue of PMD and speed up cooperation in order to so reach a clear conclusion and disprove all claims in that regard.

An IAEA delegation headed by the agency’s Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards Tero Varjoranta, and the Chief Coordinator at the IAEA, Cornel Feruta, arrived in Tehran early Sunday to hold joint sessions with Iranian experts. The delegation left Tehran early Tuesday.

Amano had also visited Iran on Thursday and met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
