Peaceful Use of Nuclear Power Right of Iran: Yemeni Envoy

TEHRAN, July 27 (Mehr News Agency) -- "The White House hawks will continue their threats against Tehran even if the Islamic Republic signs the additional protocol to the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty). The peaceful use of nuclear technology is the right of Iran," Yemeni ambassador to Tehran Abdul Qawi A. al-Eryani told the Mehr News Agency.

He stated that the Islamic Republic has never sought to develop nuclear weapons, but the Zionist regime possesses the greatest arsenal of various kinds of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in the region and manufactures them, too, threatening world security.

Elaborating on the current international situation, the Yemeni diplomat said that terrorism, WMDs, and certain powerful states' aggressive pursuit of their interests are all major concerns of humanity.

"Tehran has, so far, made serious efforts to combat terrorism, to arrest and deliver Al Qaeda members to their countries' officials. Iran has never given refuge to terrorists, and that's why this country is the target of Washington's threats," Al-Eryani added.

He said that the United States, by adopting a double-standard policy, supports the Zionist regime in its criminal actions against the innocent Palestinian nation.

He added that the U.S. threats against regional countries continue due to the pressure the Zionist lobby is putting on the U.S. government.

Highlighting the Islamic world's problems, he stressed the necessity of establishing lasting peace, security, and understanding among Islamic nations, and said that the unity of Islamic states thwarts international threats and U.S. hegemonic plans.

The Yemeni envoy stated that his country has always had a clear and consistent position on Palestine and that Palestine is the most important issue for his country. He said that Yemen supports the inalienable rights of the Palestinians and has always recognized Bait al-Moqaddas as the capital of Palestine.

Al-Eryani stated that Yemen will not oppose the U.S.-backed "road map" peace plan if the Palestinians accept it.

He went on to say that the U.S. has equipped the Zionist regime with various kinds of chemical and biological weapons to threaten the security of regional countries and make Israel the regional power, adding that ensuring the Zionist regime's security and plundering the oil and natural resources of Islamic countries are the goals of the U.S. war.

The Yemeni ambassador said that the U.S. attack on Iraq complicated the situation in the region, adding that regional countries have called on the UN to play a more significant role in encouraging the withdrawal of the U.S. occupiers.

The U.S. attack on Iraq was illegal according to international law, and the coalition forces should withdraw from Iraqi territory as soon as possible in order to pave the way for Iraqis to establish the government they desire, Al-Eryani said.

Referring to the U.S. bullying of other countries, he said that since the September 11 attacks on the U.S. landmarks, the White House has threatened other countries using the pretext of the campaign against terrorism and searching for WMDs.

In conclusion, he evaluated the Tehran-Sana'a relationship as positive and said that the two countries have had very cordial relations in the fields of industry, trade, and culture, expressing hope that bilateral ties would be strengthened in all arenas.
