IRIB holds Fourth Eternal Figures Gathering

TEHRAN, Oct. 10 (MNA) -- Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) held the Fourth Eternal Figures Gathering on Saturday night at its conference hall in Tehran.

Established by former IRIB managing director Ali Larijani in 2001, the gathering is held every year to honor contemporary Iranian figures who have made important achievements in the fields of science, art, and culture.

 

Twenty-five academics and artists were named this year’s Eternal Figures during the two-hour ceremony, which was attended by Iranian officials and scientific and cultural figures.

 

Organizers also named Larijani one of the Eternal Figures of the year.

 

Absentee winners were honored during one section of the ceremony.

 

Martyr Dr. Mostafa Chamran, a guerrilla commander during the Iraqi imposed war against Iran (1980-1988) was given a posthumous plaque of honor, and film clips of his activities on the war front were screened. Chamran’s prize was given to his brother Mahdi Chamran, who is currently the chairman of the Tehran City Council.

 

The organizers also honored poet Dr. Seyyed Hassan Hosseini who died last April. He was known as “the master of the Islamic Revolution’s poets”. His wife received his posthumous plaque of honor.

 

The gathering also paid tribute to historian Dr. Abdul-Hossein Nava’i who died on October 7 at the age of 79. He had authored over 60 books on Iranian history and Persian literature.

 

Another prominent absentee was violin virtuoso Ali Tajvidi, whose son received his award. Tajvidi is bedridden at home due to old age.

Geography: Dr. Mohammad-Hassan Ganji.

 

Bibliography: Ahmad Monzavi.

 

Persian literature and language: Amir-Banu Karimi.

 

Arabic literature: Dr. Firuz Harirchi.

 

Biology: Dr. Ahmad Majd.

 

Chemistry: Dr. Fat’hollah Moztarzadeh.

 

Pharmacy: Dr. Abbas Shafi’i.

 

Medicine: Dr. Seyyed Mahmud Tabataba’i and Dr. Fereydun Azizi.

 

Calligraphy and graphic design: Mohammad Ehasa’i.

 

Visual arts: Dr. Habibollah Ayatollahi.

 

Agriculture: Dr. Keramatollah Izadpanah.

 

Veterinary Science: Dr. Baba Mokhayyar.

 

Medical engineering: Dr. Hashemi Golpayegani.

 

Electrical engineering: Dr. Mohammad Ranjbar and Dr. Farrokh Hojjat-Kashani.

 

Mechanical engineering: Dr. Sa’id Sohrabpur.

 

Sociology and law: Dr. Hassan Habibi.

 

The gathering also honored Dr. Sa’id Kazemi Ashtiani, the director of the Ruyan Research Center, for his work on infertility and Dr. Sa’id Qannadan, the deputy director for research affairs at the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization.
