Published by Zabankadeh Publications, the bilingual English-Persian book opens with a chronology for Sepehri and is comprised of 27 poems. The Zabankadeh Publications is intent on publishing other selected poems in due course.
The British poet and psychologist Martin Turner has also written an introduction entitled “Sohrab’s Way” for the book.
Sepehri (1928-1980) is the second poet only to Nima Yushij, who is known for his pure blank verse.
As a talented artist and a gifted poet, Sepehri came to prominence with the publication of “The Water’s Footfall”. Blending visual images taken from painting with eastern mysticism, Sepehri produced a kind of poetry, which is unique and original. He died of blood cancer in Tehran in 1980.
Salami, one of the translators of the book, has already translated “With All My Tears” (selected poems of Fereydun Moshiri, 2002) and “Another Birth” (selected poems of Forugh Farrokhzad, 2003) into English. His translations of “The Divan of Hafiz” and “Maybe It’s the Messiah” (selected poems of Simin Behbahani) will be published in Tehran soon.
Zahedi, another translator of the book, has already translated “The Traveler & We Nothing But Look” (poems of Sepehri, 2002), and has edited “Anthology of American Literature.”
