Iran 5th in FIBA Asia Championship

WUHAN, China, Sept. 25 (MNA) -- Iran defeated Lebanon in the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship and took the fifth place on Sunday.

In a consolation game held at the Wuhan Gymnasium, Iran defeated its fellow WABA team 87-65.

Samuel Hoskin played the best game of the competition and scored 37 points, but that was not good enough for Lebanon to overcome their more fancied rivals.

Samad Bahrami and Mahdi Kamrany each scored 18 points to lead Iran’s scoring.

Host China edged past Jordan 70-69 and claimed the championship. The Asian powerhouse directly advanced to London Olympics as the Asian champion.

South Korea won the bronze medal after beating the Philippines 70-68.

Jordan and South Korea have to compete in the Olympic qualifying tournament in July, 2012 to book the Asia’s second quota.
