Mayelikohan named Iran coach

TEHRAN, Apeil 6 (MNA) -- Mohammad Mayelikohan replaced Ali Daei as coach of Iran’s national football team on Monday.

In a session held at Iran’s Football Federation the former Iran coach was chosen as the new national team coach. Daei was sacked last week following a home defeat against Saudi Arabia in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Mayelikohan coached the Iranian outfit in the 1996 Asian Cup of Nations but was replaced by Brazilian Valdeir Vieira after poor results in the 1998 World Cup qualifiers.

Iran will play North Korea on June 6 in Pyongyang.

The team is fourth in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers in Group Two with six points, behind North and South Korea and Saudi Arabia respectively.
