France is following closely and with great concern the progress of the Global Sumud Flotilla towards Gaza. It condemns any attack at sea and calls for compliance with international law, in particular the law of the sea, the Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement.
Those taking part in this expedition in support of Gaza have been informed of the risks entailed. As the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs has reiterated, travelling to Gaza is dangerous and strictly discouraged, be it via land or sea. Advice for travellers applies to everyone, including members of Parliament and journalists.
Our compatriots’ safety is a priority at all times. Staff at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs are closely following the situation of our nationals and will fulfil their consular protection duties in order to manage the consequences of this initiative as effectively as possible.
