Iran downs Vietnam, advances to AVC Cup semifinals

TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (MNA) – The Iran men’s national under-21 volleyball team trounced Vietnam in straight sets on Sat. and advanced to the semifinals of 2018 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup in Chinese Taipei.

On Saturday, defending champion defeated Vietnam in straight sets (25-19, 25-14, and 25-19) on the first match of the quarterfinals of 2018 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup underway in Chinese Taipei, thus qualifying for the semifinal rounds.

Iran’s head coach Behrouz Ataei used the same initial lineup as with the last two games, which included Javad Karimi, Amirhossein Esfandiar, Maysam Salehi, Pouriya Yali, Aliasghar Mojarrad, Rahman Taghizadeh, and Esmaeil Talebi. Esmaeil Mosafer replaced Salehi in the second set.

Vietnam led the game on three points gained from Iran’s errors, but the Iranian squad soon demonstrated their greater performance and downed their opponents in three straight sets. Ataei did not call for a timeout in any of the three sets.

Iran will take on Kazakhstan in the semifinals on Tuesday.

The 2018 Asian Men's Volleyball Cup started on August 8, and will wrap up on August 15, 2018.
