‘Iraqi Kurdistan referendum against national interests of Iraqis’

TEHRAN, Oct. 02 (MNA) –Iran’s Rear Admiral Shamkhani received General Akar of Turkey in Tehran and the two conferred on regional issues and the referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan.

“The referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan is to secure the goals of the Western-Arab-Hebrew front who are supporting Takfirist terrorism and is assuredly in contradiction with the national interests of the people of Iraq especially the Kurds,” reiterated Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, on Monday in Tehran, with stress on US-Israeli regime role in stabilizing insecurity and conflict in the region and among the Muslim countries.

The Iranian senior official made the remarks during his meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of Turkish Armed Forces, General Hulusi AkarHulusi Akar, who is visiting Tehran.

The two officials met on Monday afternoon in Tehran to discuss defense and security cooperation between the two countries, countering threats, and increasing security across the shared borderline.

“Speedier resolution of crises in the region will pave the way for achieving stable security and limiting the illegitimate interventions of the cross-regional powers,” asserted Mr. Shamkhani, referring to the regional developments and implementing the agreements on Syrian crisis brokered in Astana between Iran, Russia, and Turkey.

He called for pushing forward and progressing the accords made between the armed forces of the two countries as an important step in the cause for countering terrorism and bolstering defense capability of Islamic countries.

He described the referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan as a ‘novice and irresponsible measure’ made by some ‘stubborn officials of the KRG’ and added that, “not heeding to temporal and security-wise considerations and prioritizing tribal objectives in taking up this decision declined the focus on fighting against Takfirist terrorism, as the most important threat to the region, and speeded up the transfer of harmful results to the region of Iraqi Kurdistan,” highlighted Mr. Shamkhani.

He urged for containing the destabilizing consequences of the recent developments in the Iraqi Kurdistan through trilateral measures of the governments of Iran, Iraq, and Turkey, “to follow up the repeated requests of Baghdad government for curbing the negative impacts of referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan, and to fully eradicate the evil of terrorism.”

The Turkish top military official, during this meeting, for his part, reaffirmed Turkey’s government support for the central government of Iraq and underlined that Iran, Iraq, and Turkey would concentrate their measures to encounter disintegration plots against Iraq.

He also hailed Iran’s positive role in fighting terrorism in the region and noted that the shared borders of Iran and Turkey are the borders of friendship and no terrorist group would be allowed to affect the security of borders.
