Zarif calls for respect to Iraqi constitution

TEHRAN, Sep. 19 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif says that Iraqi territorial integrity and constitution must be respected.

“Both in my meetings and Mr. President’s meetings the main focus is on the regional issues with good discussion over the JCPOA,” said Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran after his meeting with British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson. He made the remarks among the reporters on Tuesday in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

He told the media that regional issues, international concerns, and the JCPOA, were the highlights of the bilateral meetings underway in New York.

“While the situation in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and especially Iraqi Kurdistan have been discussed in all the meetings the stress of all sides was on the point that Iraqi territorial integrity and constitution must be respected,” reassured the Iranian top diplomat.

He necessitated that the referendum should not be held and the domestic issue of Iraq should be resolved through dialogue between all Iraqi sides.

“Of course, matters of bilateral relations and interest naturally come up during bilateral meetings,” said the Iranian FM, “Mr. President held meetings with Swedish PM, French, Austrian, and Bolivian Presidents, and in all these meetings regional and international issues were discussed along with bilateral relations.”

“About the JCPOA, the stress was on preserving the deal, with respect to the letter of the agreement, while it will never be renegotiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” reiterated the Iranian chief if diplomacy.
