Science min. arrives in Armenia for bilateral talks

TEHRAN, Jul. 07 (MNA) – Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohamamd Farhadi landed in Yerevan to meet and talk with Armenian authorities.

Iran’s Farhadi, who is heading an academic delegation, arrived in Armenia following a visit to Georgia to confer with the country’s officials on expansion of mutual cooperation.

Upon arrival in the Armenian capital, the Iranian science minister was welcomed by Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Science and Education Davit Sahakyan as well as Iran’s Ambassador to Yerevan Seyed Kazem Sajjadi.

During the three-day visit, Mohammad Farhadi is slated to attend joint sessions with his Armenian counterpart Levon Mkrtchyan as well as with Ashot Manukyan, Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, to share views on venues for expansion of scientific, research and technological cooperation between the two countries.

He will also make visits to a number of medical and non-medical universities as well as research and treatment centers of the sovereign state in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia.

Several grounds for cooperation have emerged for reinvigoration of collaborations between Iran and Armenia following last year visit of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani to Armenia and his negotiations with counterpart Serzh Sargsyan.

Prior to Armenia, Iran’s science minister and Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Aleksandre Jejelava held talks in Tbilisi on expansion of bilateral academic cooperation.

Student placement, enrollment of Iranian university students at high education levels, expansion of cooperation on Iranology studies were among topics discussed between the two parties.

In the meeting the two ministers also examined expansion of academic centers, scientific and technological parks and setting up joint venture academic courses.

Farhadi also voiced Iran’s readiness to award 15 scholarships to Georgian universities to ease exchange of university students and professors along with expansion of Iran related studies.
