Iran ICT development index improves one spot

TEHRAN, Jun. 25 (MNA) – Iran’s ICT Development Index reported by ITU for 2016 shows one spot improvement compared with last year, ranking the country as 89th.

The ICT Development Index (IDI) is an index published by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which has been published annually since 2009. IDI is a composite index that combines 11 indicators into one benchmark measure, used to monitor and compare developments in information and communication technology (ICT) between countries and over time.

According to the latest report published by the ITU, Iran with a population of some 79 million and a Gross National Income Per capita of $6550 in Asia-Pacific Region, has been described as a developing country with an ICT Development Index (IDI) of 89.

The IDI in 2016 shows one spot improvement for Iran which was ranked 90 in 2015.

The top three countries ranked by the ICT Development Index in 2016 are South Korea, Iceland and Denmark, respectively. United States is ranked 15th.
