TEHRAN, Aug. 19 (MNA) – Following is a summary of sports news on Iran’s performance in different fields of the 23rd Universiade, Olympic Games for students, in the western Turkish seaport Izmir:

Ashkani grabs Greco-Roman glittering gold

 

Iran’s 60kg Greco-Roman wrestler Ali Ashkani clobbered South Korean finalist Kim Gi Yung-Hai 9-0. Hassan Rangraz and Mehdi Sharabiani had earlier handed Iran one silver and one bronze in the 55 and 120kg categories respectively.

 

Iran beats British basketball team

 

Iran celebrated its victory over England in the basketball meet, giving the Britons a 64-56 defeat.

 

Abdollahi, Navaii take taekwondo silvers

 

Vahid Abdollahi and Mehdi Navaii, Iran’s representative in the sixth and eighth weights of taekwondo tournament, finished runner-up as the duo were defeated by their South Korean opponents 6-5 and 2-1 in the finals.

 

Iranian volleyballers stun Slovakian side

 

Iran gave Slovakia a straight-set defeat, winning 25-21 25-21 25-22. Iran arrays against Portugal for the fifth place.
