In this list, 101 films from all over the country and abroad were able to find a place. These films were selected from among 1664 applications received from around 100 countries across the world.
The 101 films include 36 from India while the US (11 films) ranks second and Germany (7 films) at third. Besides India, the remaining 65 films are from Russia, China, Romania, South Africa, Serbia, Peru, Mexico, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, USA, Canada, Spain, France, Austria, Singapore, Iran, England, Poland and Switzerland.
The Iranian film selected to vie at the Indian film festival is ‘Inversion’ directed by Behnam Behzadi. The film is Behzadi’s fourth directed feature film that has previously participated in Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival and received positive reviews. The title is a reference to thermal inversion, a meteorological condition causing air pollution. The drama centers around a woman, Niloofar (played by Sahar Dolatshahi), who decides to take charge and find ways to better express herself in the smog-teeming metropolis of Tehran.
This list of selected films for the JIFF includes 21 Feature Fiction Films, 13 Documentary Feature Films,14 Short Documentary Films, 3 Animation Short Films, and 50 Short fiction films.
The final list of selected films will be released in the first week of December 2016. The festival will be held on 7-11 January , 2017.
