Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani believed that today, “we have the capability to mobilize in any level our resources against the enemy to which the Parliament should contribute given its unique place in the legislation; facilitated decision-making would contribute seriously to public mobilization which lies mainly with the Parliament; a powerful Parliament will prove crucial in passing laws in line with grand objectives of the Islamic Republic.”
“I call the 10th Parliament to help in foreign policy, since the role assigned to Foreign Ministry is more pronounced; I also call the Parliament to have more active role in Islamic Inter-parliamentary bodies,” said Soleimani, turning to Hezbollah of Lebanon whom the general dubbed wielding huge preponderance in the regional developments. “The force has the capacity and means to destroy its enemies, as enemies themselves would admit; in more regional and national level, Hezbollah exercises excellent command and that is why it has been subject to overwhelming pressures.”
Maj. Gen. Soleimani then touched upon the situation in Syria; “from the outset, Iran’s policy was to avoid Shia-Sunni sectarian conflicts; however, the further developments proved the fact that resistance against Takfirists would be conducive to our as well as the region’s interest; if Iran remained passive, ISIL would have announced its first state in the region, which would have extended its rule into Lebanon and other territories,” he told the meeting. “In Iraq, the situation is similar and the terrorist group had largely been stopped in its spread to other regions beyond its immediate territories.”
“In Syria, Iran prevented major disasters through providing help to the resistance in the country, which has effectively warded off a campaign launched by 25 countries hostile to Syrian government; however, in Iraq, ISIL still continues its rule for 2 years and the coalition failed to advance anything against them; our efforts in Iraq has helped form Public Mobilization Force (Hashd al-Sha’bi), they are interested in the Islamic Republic, but they are truly Iraqi forces from the grassroots,” he concluded.
