According to the Public Relations Department of Mustafa Scientific Prize, Esther Kuisch Laroche pointed to the limited development of science and technology in Muslim countries in a certain time span and noted, "57 members of Organization of Islamic Cooperation invest only 0.81 percent of their GNP for research and production which is approximately third of budget of other countries."
"Numerous scientists believe that there is a growing scientific awakening in Muslim world and lots of researches are being done with a high level of quality in these nations," she added.
Laroche pointed to Iran's role in present science saying that the country is on the top of the list with respect to the amount of scientific articles in different majors. For instance, she said, most articles which is actually more than international average, are on mathematics.
"Iran is considered as one of the most developed countries in specific majors, including nanotechnology or biotechnology. So I hope Iran and Muslim world can go back to their golden age of science once again," added Laroche.
Laroche pointed to budgeting as a crucial fact to achieve scientific improvements. "The other effective factor can be establishment of science and technology parks like Pardis Science and Technology Park in Iran," she added.
She also mentioned the positive and influential role of Mustafa Prize in Muslim world and said, "Certainly, Mustafa Prize will find its value and position as a reputed prize in international community of science. This prize will be organized in four sections and four scientists will be awarded with medals and there will be also a cash awards of 500,000 USD for the winners which are really good motivators for scientists and researchers."
Laroche described the difference between Mustafa Prize and other international prizes and emphasized, "There are many international prizes all around the world but there are just a few that focus on specific scientific subject or specific group like school students or university students. I believe the focus of Mustafa Prize is interesting."
The first round of Mustafa Prize takes place on Dec 24-29, 2015, in Tehran.
