‘Holding secure Arbaeen ceremony great success for Iraq’

TEHRAN, Nov. 19 (MNA) – In a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Heydar al-Ebadi, Iran’s First Vice President Es'hagh Jahangiri said that the Arbaeen ceremony is a great political success for Iraq.

Speaking with Iraqi PM on Wednesday, the Iranian official said that holding a secure and successful Arbaeen ceremony and managing millions of pilgrims in Karbala and different routes leading to the city, in a limited period of time, is a great political and cultural success for Iraq’s nation and government.

“Hope that Iraq will fully cooperate to accelerate the visa process since Iran has urged all its pilgrims to get a visa for traveling to Iraq”, he added.

“The religious ceremony will indeed show that Takfiri thoughts and sectarianism have no place in the world of Islam”, he noted.

The Iranian minister also praised Iraq’s latest achievements in fighting Takfiri groups and said “Iraq’s stability and security, integrity, national unity and its territorial integrity is in accordance with Iran’s strategic interests and we will continue supporting Iraq in fighting against terrorism.”

Haider al-Abadi, for his part, said that hosting the pilgrims is a great fortune for the Iraqi government and nation.

He also added that Iraq will do its best to issue 100,000 visas every day.

He hoped that the sanctions will be lifted soon which will pave the grounds for Iran to expand its economic ties with other countries including Iraq.

Moreover Iran's Interior Minister Rahmani-Fazli visited the town of Shalamcheh this morning to determine the status of the border zone for the passage of Iranian pilgrims traveling to Iraq for Arbaeen.

Shalamcheh is one of the three official borders through which Iranian pilgrims travel to Iraq to attend the Arbaeen ceremony.

Arbaeen marks the anniversary of the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
