"As in previous years, there is no concern over security issues for Arbaeen pilgrims on December 2 due to the integrated air base network which establishes complete defense coverage for the commuting pilgrims," Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Commander Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on Sunday morning.
The commander further asserted that, "‘To Beit al-Muqaddas' (Towards al-Quds) war game marked a great honor for the country where Tehran's air defense area together with Fordow's anti-nuclear group directed and controlled the sky maneuvers bringing thorough security to the exercise's area."
"Over the past month we have managed to ensure air safety for Muharram military drills as well as for Sky of Velayat 6 air defense exercise which indicates the authority of the staff with extensive training and non-stop perseverance," Esmaili concluded.
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world marking the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS) in karbala.
