Mecca tragedy due to Saudi govt. negligence

TEHRAN, Sep. 14 (MNA) – Iranian Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday expressed condolences over the tragic crane collapse in Mecca stressing that the incident was due to the Saudi government's negligence.

In his message, Larijani expressed regret that Hajj rituals coincided with the sad incident.

Noting that the Saudi government should have provided the necessary preparations to safeguard the lives of the pilgrims, he called on the Saudi officials to immediately probe into the case.

Larijani sympathized with the families of the victims and wished immediate recovering for those injured in the incident.

107 pilgrims have reportedly lost their lives and 238 others were wounded during the tragedy when a crane crashed through the ceiling of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, the largest mosque in the world, amid high winds and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon.

According to the latest news, Head of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Saeed Ohadi said on Sunday that number of Iranian pilgrims who lost their lives in Mecca has risen to eight from earlier five victims as bodies of three from seven missing Iranian pilgrims were identified.

32 Iranian pilgrims were also wounded in the incident who are said to be in good health conditions.
