Following the tragic loss of lives in Friday’s crane collapse at the Grand Mosque of Mecca, Zarif condoled with the worldwide Islamic community including the Iranian pilgrims and the families of the victims.

Zarif expressed hope that Saudi officials take necessary action to ensure the security and well-being of all pilgrims, so that they would be able to conclude their Hajj rituals under security and serenity.

Saudi officials have declared that the annual hajj to Mecca will go ahead, despite the horrific crane disaster that killed more than 100 people and wounded 238 in the city.

The tragedy occurred when a crane crashed through the ceiling of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, the largest mosque in the world, amid high winds and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon.
