Running in Kosanov Memorial Tournament in Almaty City of Kazakhstan, Another Iranian track and field sprinter Mohammad Hossein Abaraghi staged an excellent performance running the 200 meters event with a time of 20.47s and advanced to the Olympic Games.
He over-passed his earlier record of 21.04s registered in Tehran in 2013, and booked for the first time in history a place for Iran in this event in the Olympic Games.
Earlier in the competitions, Hassan Taftian and Reza Ghasemi had qualified for the games in the 100 meters and Leila Rajabi booked a place in women's shot put.

Gusman Kosanov (May 25, 1935 - July 19, 1990) was a Soviet athlete who competed mainly in the 100 meters. He was trained in Kishinev and later in Almaty at the Armed Forces Sports Society. He competed for the USSR in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy in the 4 x 100 meter relay where he won the silver medal with his teammates Leonid Bartenev, YuriyKonovalov and EdvinOzolin.
Thanks to Iranian athletes’ endeavor in Almaty, 4 spots in Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro was added to former 2 berths and now Iran has secured four entries in 2016 competitions.
