“It is not yet decided how many more days the negotiations will go on but no long-term extension is on the agenda,” the Iranian negotiator told reporters in Vienna on Tuesday.
He added that the Iranian negotiating team are striving for a good deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and that the remaining points of difference and determining details will be covered in today’s ministerial meeting.
“Progress is very minimal but it is moving forward,” he said.
The negotiator further noted that given a number of important issues still remaining to be settled, the two sides will carry on with the negotiations for a few days past the June 30 deadline.
“There is no talks on a long-term extension to the negotiations, however,” he stressed.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who returned to Vienna on Tuesday, sat down with US Sectary of States John Kerry today to resume the nuclear talks.
The eighth round of talks kicked off in the Austrian capital two week ago with the aim to work on the text of a final deal over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Zarif is also scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at 14:00 local time (4:30 PM Tehran time.)
Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, will arrive at Palais Coburg this afternoon to meet with Iran’s Zarif.
