In reaction to the remarks made by US officials on Washington Post's journalist Jason Rezaian's case, Afkham said on Thursday that the US officials' intervening statements about the procedure of Jason Rezaian's trial lacked legal basis.
"The US officials had better concentrate on the unjust trial procedure of Iranian nationals who are jailed in the US on unfounded charges instead of blaming others," she added.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman reaffirmed the independence of the Judiciary, adding that any country has its own laws for dealing with the charges brought against people.
She said that the presiding judge was responsible for the trial and that biased, prejudgments and predictions have no room in judicial affairs.
Jason Rezaian, an Iranian-American with dual citizenship who is held by Iran for espionage charges was arrested along with his Iranian wife Yganeh Salehi, also a photojournalist, on July 22 last year whereas the wife was later freed on bail. The first court hearing of Rezaian was held in Tehran on May 26.
