Former conductor of Tehran Symphony Orchestra dies at 75

TEHRAN, July 10 (MNA) -- Former Tehran Symphony Orchestra conductor Fereidun Nasseri died of heart failure at Tehran’s Madaen Hospital on July 8, his elder son Nima announced on Friday.

He conducted the Tehran Symphony Orchestra from 1995 to 2001.

“Unfortunately, father went into coma a few days ago and never regained consciousness and finally died this afternoon,” Nima said.

Born in Tehran in 1930, Nasseri began studying at a music school when he was 10. He completed several music courses in Iran and then went to Belgium to study.

A percussion virtuoso, Nasseri worked for Iranian TV and radio during the 1960s and 1970s. He also composed the music for several Iranian TV series and movies such as Nasser Taqvaii’s “Captain Khorshid”, Ali Hatami’s “Sattar Khan”, and Mohammad Motavasselani’s “Mirza Noruz’s Shoes”.

Nasseri’s funeral procession is to be held tomorrow in front of Tehran’s Vahdat Hall. Iranian artists will pay tribute to him on July 13 at the Al-Javad Mosque on Haftom-e Tir Square.
