Montreal mayor thrilled over Canadian doc’s premiere in Iran

TEHRAN, Oct. 12 (MNA) -- Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay expressed his satisfaction over the world premiere of “A Mad Venture, in the Footsteps of Jeanne Mance” at Iran’s 4th International Cinéma Vérité Festival.

Produced, written and directed by Annabel Loyola, the doc is an entry to the “Documentary and Women” section of the festival which will run from November 8 to 12 in Tehran.

“I am thrilled that Montreal will be part of the 4th Cinema Verite Festival with the world premiere of the film “A Mad Venture, In the Footsteps of Jeanne Mance’”, reads part of the letter sent to the secretariat of the festival.

Giving some details about the character of Jeanne Mance, the mayor next expresses hope that the festival will be a success and encourage some of the participants decide to follow in the footsteps of Jeanne Mance. “We will be pleased to greet them warmly,” concludes the letter.

The brief synopsis of the doc describes, “A woman in the present goes in search of a woman of the past, Jeanne Mance (1606-1673), co-founder of Montreal. Annabel Loyola is from Langres, France, birthplace of Jeanne Mance four hundred years earlier.”

“The two women share a common itinerary that leads them from Langres to Paris and, finally, to Montreal. In her adoptive city, Loyola discovers that Mance was one of the founders of what would become the second-largest French-speaking city in the world. Fascinated by the unusual destiny of this woman from the town of her youth, she decides to retrace her steps.”

A total of 43 docs from different countries including Turkey, Sweden, Canada, U.S., Argentina, France, Germany, China and Brazil will go on screen during the event.
