Iran urges swift, unconditional release of Maduro

TEHRAN, Jan. 05 (MNA) – "Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, must be released immediately and unconditionally," Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman says.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei condemned the United States’ attack on Venezuela, describing it as a dangerous action that violates the fundamental principle of national sovereignty and cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Baghaei said the repeated violation of international rules should lead the global community to the conclusion that without adherence to these principles, the international system risks descending into chaos and lawlessness.

He stressed that the use of naked force in international relations runs counter to all established international norms and is therefore absolutely condemned.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman warned that promoting the concept of “peace through force” amounts to the creation of a world without law, emphasizing that such a precedent would not be limited to one country.

According to Baghaei, the dangerous path opened by the US action in Venezuela could eventually affect all states, undermining the foundations of the international order.

Baghaei underscored that the violation of a country’s sovereignty sets a precedent that threatens collective global security, calling on the international community to recognize the long-term consequences of tolerating such actions.

He said that ambassador and staff of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran are in full health, and the situation of Iranian nationals is being continuously monitored.

The number of Iranian nationals residing in this country is limited, and so far no reports have been received indicating any problems or incidents involving them, he said.

"With regard to safeguarding the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the governing system in Venezuela has not changed and remains in place."
