Ali Larijani becomes secretary of top Iranian security body

TEHRAN, Aug. 05 (MNA) – Ali Larijani has been reappointed as the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) at the order of President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has appointed Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

Larijani was holding the same post previously from 15 August 2005 to 20 October 2007. He also was the Iranian parliament's speaker from 2008 to 2020.

On Sunday, Iran revived an Iraq war-era National Defense Council to review defense plans and enhance the capabilities of its armed forces in a centralized manner. 

Both the National Defense Council and the SNSC are headed by Iran's president.
