Iran's strategy in Persian Gulf peace, security

TEHRAN, Apr. 29 (MNA) – Iran's strategy in the Persian Gulf is peace and security, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy says.

Today marks the end of the 117-year Portuguese occupation in the Persian Gulf, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said on Monday.

"Iran's strategy in the Persian Gulf is peace, security, and friendship, and foreigners are disturbing security here," he stressed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Tangisiri cited that 40% of gas and 62% of oil in the region is in the Persian Gulf. "We established the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the daily traffic of 83 ships."

The Persian Gulf is a waterway that runs along the Sea of Oman between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. It covers an area of 237,473 km2 and is the third largest in the world after the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of Hudson. As Iran has the longest common water border with the Persian Gulf and has played the main role in the formation of the ancient civilization of this region, with Iranians controlling and ruling the Persian Gulf throughout history, it is regarded as the main inheritor of the region. Iran marks the National Day of the Persian Gulf on April 29 each year.
