The qualification matches at the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships got underway on October 03 in Rosario, Argentina where 500 archers from 65 nations are competing for quotas to next year’s Youth Olympic Games to be held in Bonus Aires.
Iran’s Safaeipour obtained three precious victories and was directly led to 2018 Bonus Aires extravaganza. The young Iranian archer defeated rivals from Belgium (6-2), Kazakhstan (6-4) and Romania (6-4) finding his way to Round of 16. He later conceded a 3-7 loss in the face of an Italian archer.
Sogand Haddad, Iran’s other representative, breezed past a contestant from Poland (6-0) in his opening match though he was later downed by the Chinese archer. Given that two Korean athletes advanced to the next round, Haddad found a place in the second-chance group where he pulled out a 7-3 victory over an opponent from Italy. The young Iranian athlete later lost to a archer from the Philippines and landed 17th overall. As such, Haddad will remain in on the reserve list and will replace any archer who, for any reason, might miss the Olympic Games.
It is worth noting that every country can deploy two archers, one boy and one girl, to Youth Olympic Games and Iran will be able to collect its second quota at the 20th Asian Archery Championships to convene in Dhaka, Bangladesh in November.
The 2017 World Archery Youth Championships started on 2 October, 2017 in Rosario, Argentina. The 2018 World Youth Olympics will be also held in Bonus Aires from 06 OCT - 18 OCT, 2018.
