Concerning his film which has recently been screened in a film festival in Japan, Mohammad Ali Talebi said “a while ago, my film competed in Asia Fukuoka Film Festival and my work managed to take home the Audience Award.”
This festival is noncompetitive in essence, but since 2006, an Audience Award is presented to the film which gains the majority votes cast by the audience. This year, two films won the award, the other being ‘Bad Genius’ from Thailand.
Focusing on a social issue, ‘Violinist’ is the story of a teenage boy named Kianoush Shahnazi who plays violin on the streets to make a living. The film has a narrative and fictional structure, but it is inspired by the realities in society.
Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival was launched in 1991 as a major undertaking of “Asian Month” (renamed “Asian Party” in 2013), which began in 1990 to promote an understanding of Asia and Asian cultural exchange through excellent motion pictures.
