Qeshm means second Hong Kong to foreigners

TEHRAN, Sept. 4 (MNA) – Qeshm will be linked to the nation’s satellite network in less than two years at the cost of 10 billion rials, Fakhreddin Anvar, the general director of Qeshm Free Trade Zone Organization (QFTZO) said in a joint news briefing with the head of Iran’s Topography Organization.

The project will turn Qeshm into a smart island in terms of better site selection of the projects, specially for construction of the Persian Gulf bridge plan. As in hydrography, any plan at sea requires data. This plays significant role in future plans and the path toward a smart Iran will begin from Qeshm.

Anvar further maintained that Iran is ready to cooperate with any country on construction of the bridge, and even the Americans may have a presence in this project. There is no problem as to working with foreigners and financing, he added.

Delay in construction of Kaveh Dock takes $6b worth of exports per year away from our treasury while UAE’s ports are reaping this profit, he stated.

The existing potential for investment in Qeshm, implementation of the projects in hand, satellite connection and many other promising trade can turn this island into Iran’s gate to international trade. It is in this sense that outsiders do see these possibilities and consider Qeshm as a second Hong Kong.

Another project in hand is construction of second largest oil terminal, after Khark’s oil terminal, with a capacity of 30 million oil barrels storage in ‘Suza’ area to the north of Qeshm’s central region. Some 800 hectares of land has already been mapped for this plan, and an immediate action by the Ministry of Oil could get everything going as quick as possible, Anvar urged.
